The Lap-Band: Less Invasive? Yes, same results? No!
Here is an interesting article about the Lap-Band procedure. Considered by many doctors as a safer, less invasive surgical option for severely obese people. Approved by the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) five years ago, the Lap-Band System is a relative newcomer in the United States.
Now, as you can read, there is a comparison with Gastric Bypass Surgery, and Dr. Paul Stanish says that in a 18 month period, the results with Lap-Band and Gastric Bypass are the same… Hmmm… Honestly, I expect to live more than 18 months after my operation. This is why it is so important to see the Weight Loss Surgery as a long term solution. It has been proven that on the long term, Gastric Bypass is more successful.
I am not saying that Lap-Band is not good. I do believe it is a good alternative if the risk factors for a full blown Gastric Bypass surgery are to high. But if you are morbidly obese, in the long term, it has been proven with much less success.

Hi.. I just discovered your site, and so glad I did. I have been looking for a support group, for those who might have some serious side effects following their Lap-Band surgery.. Mine was done 2/05, and I am considering having it reversed. I suffer from either vomitting or diarrhea every other day, since surgery.. Even my surgeon has had the same procedure done, and he doesn't have any answers for me.. I am getting totally depressed over this.. I did lose 70 lbs of the 100 that I want to lose, but no more seems to be coming off despite the digestion problems I am having. Is there anyone else out there, who might have been having the same problems.. It seems that the younger you are, this surgery seems to not have caused the same dire results.. I was 64 when I had it done.. Thank you.
